Pinning up Hopes around the Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid-19 Vaccine

Posted on

With the release of the data from Oxford University-British Swedish firm AstraZeneca's phase I/II study of their Novel Covid-19 vaccine a few days ago, the world started to rejoice. In late April, this group was one of the first to kick start the vaccine's clinical trials. Thus ever since for the process of the COVID-19 vaccine, several developments are taking place. The Oxford- AstraZeneca's vaccine of COVID-19 is still undergoing Phase III of its trials. The preliminary results obtained from the observatory data have confirmed that the vaccine extracts a strong immune response in the host's bodies and thus provided encouraging results. The AstraZeneca firm has also announced specific plans for speeding up the production to meet the promise of delivering billions of doses of this vaccine. World Health Organization (WHO), in its latest statement, has praised this attempt to move forward regarding the release of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Will the Release of COVID-19 Vaccine Be Beneficial for the Society?

WHO also added to its statement that it is still unrealistic to have a vaccine deployed in the market before the initial months of 2021. While there are many essential things to obtain from the data, some of the broad safety concerns still exist. The Lancet showed some observations that focused on the research participants who were administered the double dosage of the vaccine, according to the data published in the scientific journal. These participants showed a strong immune response and even spiked up the production of antibodies to fight against the deadly infection. However, it remains quite uncertain and vague about the fact of the longevity of the vaccine that will be able to provide the required immunity to fight well against the contagious infection. Whereas, few of the experts commented that Coronavirus might remain here for the decades to come. The previous reports concerning this vaccine also revealed that the vaccine might only provide immunity for a year.

Effectiveness of the Vaccine on Novel Coronavirus

However, as per the study of King's College, London, it has also been observed that the antibodies level in the body of patients might fall temporarily, thus providing immunity to the infection. The evidence obtained at the early stage might have shown some encouraging results, but doubt always exists regarding the lab results as it always does not correlate to the real-world consequences. All the vaccines developing right now are entirely new, and till now, we have come across several pieces of evidence about the Novel Coronavirus. The lab results might not correspond with the results as tested over the crowd of billions of people. The vaccine is also not a one-size fit for all people. It might also happen the vaccine working for a small group might not work for everyone or a large group of people. When the researchers stared pre-clinical studies on monkeys, similar kinds of concerns were raised, thus exposing them to a much higher load of viruses than it would be applied to humans.
